GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Strengthening winds on a wildfire in the Columbia Gorge have prompted fire officials to order more homes evacuated in rugged canyonlands on the northern flank of Mount Hood. The Blackburn fire southwest of The Dalles remained at 15 percent containment after growing to 17 square miles. Forestry officials said last night that stronger winds are expected this afternoon.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Lake Oswego woman is expected to be arraigned today on two felony hit-and-run counts stemming from a crash last week that left a bicyclist injured near the Capitol Highway ramp. Portland police say 29-year-old Miriam Ann Clinton turned herself yesterday after an anonymous tip led detectives to a vehicle that was at a body shop.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Gresham police say a large parakeet stolen from a southeast Portland home has been reunited with its owner. Detectives say a woman brought the bird to the police department yesterday. She told police she took possession of the bird shortly after midnight when the cage it was in fell from the shopping cart of an old man who appeared homeless. The bird was not harmed.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney says he’s not interested in building a new bridge over the Columbia River without the support of Washington state. The Salem Democrat told The Oregonian that Oregon risks creating ill will if it goes forward alone. The $3.5 billion project died when the Washington state Senate didn’t approve its share of the funding.
