PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A customer at a Portland Plaid Pantry store says she was humiliated when she went to pay for snacks with her Oregon Trail Card. Michelle Moseley tells KOIN the clerk waved the card yesterday and asked if anyone else in line wanted to use the food stamp card. She feels he was insinuating she was spending his money. Plaid Pantry apologized and says it’s reviewing store video as part of an investigation.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two Oregon blueberry farms that were forced to admit labor law violations and pay fines are suing the Labor Department, alleging they were denied due process. The lawsuit says they were coerced into signing consent orders and paying fines because their perishable blueberry crops were at risk. The Oregonian reports the federal lawsuit was filed yesterday by lawyers for Pan-American Berry Growers of Salem and B&G Ditchen of Silverton.
OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – Fed up with drunkenness and litter from people floating in tubes on the Clackamas River, Clackamas County commissioners have voted to allow park rangers and deputies to search bags and coolers for alcohol. KATU reports alcohol is already banned in county parks and the new law puts some teeth in the prohibition.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Boyd’s coffee of Portland says it will start selling “harvested by women” certified coffee this fall. Spokeswoman Katy Boyd Dutt tells KGW it uses a verification system to certify that its Cafe Libre beans are grown, harvested and sold in a way that promotes a fair and sustainable lifestyle for women.
