Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Lottery is no longer paying for ads to help addicted gamblers. The decision follows a state Justice Department opinion that said the job of lottery officials is to run a lottery, with proceeds going toward economic development, public education and protecting the environment. The department says using money to reach out to problem gamblers is not part of that mission.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – Court records show a woman who surrendered after a decade as a fugitive in the nation’s largest eco-terrorism case is expected to enter guilty pleas in Portland on Oct. 10. Rebecca Rubin was accused in a federal indictment of being a member of the Earth Liberation Front and Animal Liberation Front known as The Family. Investigators blame the group for 20 fires across the West from 1996 to 2001 that did $40 million in damage.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – A Romanian princess and her husband are apparently among several people arrested in Eastern Oregon yesterday for suspected cockfighting. Federal indictments in Portland charge Irina Walker and her husband John Wesley Walker with hosting cockfights at their ranch in Morrow County. The Oregonian newspaper identified Irina Walker as a daughter of the last king of Romania. Records show John Wesley Walker was a Coos County sheriff’s deputy from 1998 to 2003.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A 14-year-old Salem boy is recovering at home from a bullet wound he suffered when an 11-year-old friend accidentally fired a gun they were playing with. KVAL reports the bullet passed through the fleshy part of his armpit, out his back and into the wall of the garage where they were playing yesterday. Marion County deputies say they recovered the .45 caliber handgun. The wounded boy’s mother told KVAL it belongs to the 11-year-old’s father.
