SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber has signed a bill legalizing medical marijuana dispensaries. Kitzhaber signed 66 bills yesterday but vetoed parts of two of them. Critics pushed Kitzhaber to veto the dispensaries measure saying it could lead to abuses. In a letter, Kitzhaber says the bill provides the Oregon Health Authority with power to regulate dispensaries. The governor hasn’t acted on a bill letting some schools keep their Native American mascots, which the state Board of Education had banned.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – The sheriff of Malheur County says the FBI will investigate whether deputies acted properly when they pulled over an animal rights activist who had been taking photos of a controversial rodeo event known as horse tripping. Sheriff Brian E. Wolfe told The Associated Press yesterday that he is turning over videos and other materials to the FBI.

WOLF CREEK, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a highway flagger was hit and killed yesterday by a commercial truck on Interstate 5 in southern Oregon. Lt. Gregg Hastings says the flagger was employed by a private company contracting with the Oregon Transportation Department on a paving project. Neither the victim nor the company was immediately identified.

NEWBERG, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police are investigating the death of a 45-year-old Gresham, Ore., man who reportedly fell out of the passenger side door of a pickup traveling west of Newberg. Lt. Eric Davenport says Phillip Lockwood of Newberg reports he was driving the truck Tuesday night, traveling about 55 mph with a friend in the passenger seat. Lockwood says the passenger door suddenly opened and his friend, Ronald Toby, fell onto the road.
