GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – The cool weather that has allowed firefighters to make steady progress against wildfires in southwestern Oregon will be turning warmer this week – so intense burning and smoke are likely to return to the Grants Pass area. Firefighters have the biggest of the fires – the 71-square-mile Douglas Complex outside Glendale – 50 percent contained.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a Polish military man has died in a climbing accident on Oregon’s Mount Hood. Sgt. Pete Hughes of the Hood River County sheriff’s office says the body of 32-year-old Sebastian Kinasiewicz (kihn-AH’-suh-vich) was spotted from the air Tuesday. He says the climber appears to have fallen about 1,000 feet from near the summit.
SHERWOOD, Ore. (AP) – A 3-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a fall from a second-story window of a house in Sherwood, Ore. The Oregonian reports the boy has been flown to a Portland hospital. Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue crews responded yesterday afternoon and found an off-duty firefighter who happened to be in the area already aiding the child.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The American Civil Liberties Union of Oregon has argued at the Oregon Court of Appeals that records used by a civilian review board to judge the actions of a Eugene police officer should be made public. The Eugene chief of police did not discipline an officer who in 2008 twice deployed a stun gun on a protester lying on the ground. The city cited a provision in Oregon law that permits it to withhold records in personnel investigations that don’t result in discipline.
