SAN DIEGO (AP) – Tarvaris Jackson threw two touchdown passes and Brady Quinn, also battling to be Russell Wilson’s backup, threw for another score as the Seattle Seahawks beat San Diego 31-10 last night in Mike McCoy’s debut as Chargers coach. Wilson, who led the Seahawks to the playoffs last year as a rookie, played the first three series. He threw for 23 yards and ran for 9. Quinn threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse late in the first half.
LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) – A judge is preparing to grant summary judgment in favor of Craig James, ESPN Inc. and a public relations firm in lawsuits brought against them by football coach Mike Leach after he was fired by Texas Tech. Texas Tech fired Leach in December 2009 amid accusations he mistreated James’ son, a player who had a concussion. The suit against ESPN and Spaeth Communication alleged libel and slander. Leach is now the coach at Washington State.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Last season the comparison was made that Brandin Cooks was Robin to Markus Wheaton’s Batman in Oregon State’s dynamic receiving duo. Now Wheaton has moved on to the NFL and Cooks is ready to shed his sidekick status. He says it means that he’s going to have to work harder, carry the load and be a leader to the players coming up – just as Wheaton did. The Beavers went 9-4 and finished third in the tough Pac-12 North.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland Trail Blazers have signed veteran free agent guard Mo Williams. Williams has played 10 seasons in the NBA with stops in Milwaukee, Cleveland, the Clippers and Utah, averaging 13.8 points, 2.9 rebounds and 5 assists. Last season with the Jazz, the 6-foot-1 Williams averaged 12.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists.
