ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – A memorial service will be held tomorrow in Albany for Jesse Trader, the firefighter who died at a southern Oregon wildfire. The public service will be held at the West Albany High School football stadium. The 19-year-old died Tuesday when the water truck he was driving overturned at the Big Windy fire complex.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Multnomah County searchers are looking for a Longview woman who became lost on a hike yesterday near Wahkeena Springs and Devils Rest in the Columbia River Gorge. The Oregonian reports Connie Dooney became separated from two hiking companions. Authorities say Dooney wasn’t prepared to spend the night outdoors.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a motorcycle rider was killed in a crash early today on the approach to the Broadway Bridge in Portland. Responding officers and medical personnel found the rider dead about 2:30 a.m. on the MAX tracks.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A steep hike on a hot day proved too much for a 12-year-old golden retriever with arthritis, so 18 volunteer rescuers in Marion County came to the dog’s aid. KGW-TV reports the rescue effort took more than five hours and some creativity Wednesday. Sheriff’s spokesman Don Thomson says the volunteers rigged a sled and used plastic webbing to secure the dog, named Dan. Then they used ropes and “sheer strength” to pull and carry the dog up several hundred feet to safety.
