PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Fire has destroyed a five-story apartment building under construction in a residential area in northeast Portland. KATU reports the fire early today spread to some neighboring homes and forced some residents to evacuate. The extent of the damage to those homes was unclear. The fire broke out around 4 a.m. at Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Northeast Monroe Street.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A three-alarm fire destroyed a house last night east of Salem. The occupants got out safely. Marion County Fire officials say firefighters were initially held back by multiple explosions in the attached garage.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The state of Oregon will pay $1 million to a former state Department of Energy official who claims his career was derailed by a botched investigation. The payment settles a lawsuit filed by Mark Long, who says former Oregon Department of Justice prosecutor Sean Riddell withheld or destroyed documents central to the investigation. The agency did not acknowledge any wrongdoing as part of the settlement.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say one of their detectives has been suspended without pay after he was found with a prostitute while on duty. The police said in a statement that Clackamas County sheriff’s deputies cited 50-year-old Richard Narvaez Tuesday afternoon after getting a report about a man and woman engaged in a sex act near SE 82nd Avenue and SE Johnson Creek Boulevard.
