Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

SEATTLE (AP) – Jose Reyes homered on the first pitch of the game, added an RBI single to cap Toronto’s big fourth inning, and the Blue Jays handed Seattle ace Felix Hernandez his first loss since late May with a 7-2 win over the Mariners yesterday. The Blue Jays battered Hernandez and knocked him out after just five innings, matching his shortest start of the season.

PHOENIX (AP) – Tina Thompson had 19 points and eight rebounds to lead the Seattle Storm past the Phoenix Mercury 80-65 last night. Tanisha Wright also scored 19 points and Shekinna Stricklen added 13 to help the Storm win for the third time in three meetings with the Mercury this season and improve to 9-11. Candice Dupree led Phoenix with 18 points and eight rebounds.

SEATTLE (AP) – Clint Dempsey’s likely home debut for the Seattle Sounders could be played in front of one of the largest crowds in team history. The Sounders said yesterday that their Aug. 25 match versus rival Portland had sold out and that the club would be opening 400 bleacher seats plus offering standing room only tickets for the first time in club history for an MLS match.

RENTON, Wash. (AP) – On a team that counts continuity among its greatest strengths, the Seattle Seahawks are hoping change can be a good thing for the defensive line. Veterans Cliff Avril, Michael Bennett and Tony McDaniel were brought in to add depth and their value could become greater as Bruce Irvin serves a four-game suspension and Chris Clemons recovers from knee surgery. Seattle will begin to see how the changes are shaking out starting tomorrow when it opens the preseason at San Diego.
