Lane County Commissioners acted quickly and unanimously today to terminate the contract of Administrator Liane Richardson.

The county’s chief executive for the past year and a half had been on paid leave since late July after irregularities in her take-home pay were revealed.

She admitted to improperly directing the personnel department to increase her net pay by including deferred compensation and excess sick leave.

That was after an unsuccessful effort in January to get an 18-percent pay increase.

In a private session earlier Tuesday, the five-member Board of Commissioners reviewed the findings of an independent investigation.  Commission Chair Sid Leiken said while the investigation was conducted with “urgency”, it was also “careful” and “thoroughly” examined all of the evidence.

Leiken expressed disappointment in the action saying Richardson’s actions “do not reflect the values and judgment consistent with work here at the County.”

Alicia Hayes will remain as acting County Administrator until further notice.
