PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Over 100 homes have been evacuated due to wildfires burning in Douglas and Josephine counties in southwest Oregon. More than 1,000 firefighters are battling the blazes which cover 33 square miles and are only 2 percent contained. The fires have yet to burn any houses or cause any major injuries.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The citizen committee that advises Oregon’s medical marijuana program is recommending adopting the plant-inspection standards used for organic certification. The committee’s recommendations to the Oregon Health Authority will help shape the state’s new dispensary program. The call for organic pot is out of concern for patients with immune system deficiencies.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon insurance regulators are threatening to decertify a workers’ compensation self-insurance trust if it can’t come up with $750,000 by next week. The Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services says Oregon Employers Trust has until Aug. 7 to increase its security deposit. The trust’s president says they are working to meet the requirement.
HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Sponsors say attendance at the Oregon International Air Show was down by 15 percent this year. Air show officials tell KGW-TV that the absence of the Blue Angels flying acrobat was a big reason for the decrease. The team has cancelled its appearances this summer due to federal budget cuts. The three-day event featured acrobatic plane shows, aircraft displays and fireworks.
