PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The state Attorney General’s office will conduct a criminal investigation into whether Multnomah County Chairman Jeff Cogen inappropriately spent public money to further his affair with county employee Sonia Manhas. Meanwhile, a majority of Multnomah County commissioners issued a resolution yesterday calling for Cogen’s immediate resignation.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – The administrator for Lane County government has taken paid leave amid questions about her paycheck. The Eugene Register-Guard reports that a county worker questioned the way Liane Richardson boosted her take-home pay by cashing out past, unused paid vacation and sick time.

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (AP) – Crook County sheriff’s officers say a 27-year-old Redmond man was killed when a 1,500-pound metal press fell on him yesterday at the Fontana Wood Products mill northwest of Prineville. KTVZ-TV says the man is identified as Joshua Lee Ketchem. Deputies say Ketchem had been working alone underneath a large metal press, supported by a forklift, when the press fell on him.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Two days after a homeless camp was removed from the walkway in front of the Portland City Hall, campers are back. The Oregonian reports the sidewalk was packed with sleeping bags before dawn today. New regulations require that the walkway be cleared between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m.
