SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon prison officials say two men walked away from the minimum-security Mill Creek Correctional Facility in Salem last night. They were discovered missing by staff about 10 p.m. Both men were wearing blue jeans and blue T-shirts with the word “inmate.” They are — Daryl Manuel Hernandez who was serving time for marijuana and child neglect convictions in Marion County, and Franco Armando Moreno who was serving time for car theft in Marion County.

WARM SPRINGS, Ore. (AP) – A fire official says a blaze that started in a kitchen area at a north-central Oregon resort has caused extensive fire and water damage and forced Kah-Nee-Ta Resort & Spa to close its main lodge for at least four days. Warm Springs Fire Chief Dan Martinez tells KTVZ-TV that more than 350 people were evacuated and moved to other hotels. Martinez says guests were never in danger. On its Facebook page, the resort said several other areas remain open.

JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) – A U.S. Senate committee has advanced a measure that would provide $6 million for marine debris clean-up, including debris from the 2011 Japanese tsunami. The bill also calls for the secretary of Commerce to submit a report detailing how federal agencies are preparing for and responding to the tsunami debris that is reaching U.S. shores, and how it is working with states, tribes and local governments.

STANFIELD, Ore. (AP) – State police say a man who stole a newspaper carrier’s car from an Eastern Oregon truck stop died an hour later in a chase. Police say the carrier left the car unlocked with the keys inside early yesterday at a Pilot Truck Stop in Stanfield along I-84. A Stanfield gave chase until the stolen car missed a curve and rolled several times.
