SEATTLE (AP) – Jackie Bradley Jr. hit a tiebreaking homer, Shane Victorino slugged the last of Boston’s five long balls and the Red Sox snapped a three-game skid with an 11-8 win over the Seattle Mariners last night. Boston rallied from an early 5-1 deficit, using two-run homers from Dustin Pedroia and Mike Napoli. Alfredo Aceves, Craig Breslow and Andrew Bailey kept Seattle scoreless for 4 2-3 innings after starter Allen Webster was tagged for seven earned runs in 2 1-3 innings.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) – The New York Liberty recovered after giving up nearly all of a 19-point lead in the third quarter and beat the Seattle Storm 66-57 last night. Plenette Pierson scored nine of her 22 points in the fourth quarter. Tina Thompson scored 13 points and Tanisha Wright added 12 for the Storm, losers of five of their last six.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Chris Wondolowski scored a first-half hat trick in a 6-1 victory for the U.S. men’s national team over Belize in the opening round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup last night. Landon Donovan added a goal and two assists, becoming the first player with at least 50 career goals and 50 assists for the national team.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Michael Barrantes scored a pair of second-half goals and Costa Rica defeated Cuba 3-0 last night in the opening round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Barrantes broke open a scoreless match with a left-footed goal from the top of the box that got past diving Cuban goalkeeper Odelin Molina in the 51st minute. He added another goal after Jairo Arrieta’s scored in the 71st.

SEATTLE (AP) – A group of Seahawks fans hopes to set a Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd roar at a sports stadium. The seattlepi.com reports the group called Volume 12 hopes to set the record during the Seahawks home opener Sept. 15 against the 49ers at CenturyLink Field. The current world record of nearly 132 decibels was set in 2011 during a soccer match in Turkey.
