Sandblasters cap tournament with victory

The Three Rivers Sandblasters won three straight games over the weekend, the final one a 9-5 victory over Humboldt County, California, to capture the tournament title at the Papa’s Pizza Invitational in Eugene.

The Blasters started the weekend with an 18-nothing loss to Toyota of Seattle on Friday;  then downed Portland’s Northwest Star 10-2 and the Eugene Challengers 7-3 Saturday evening to set up the final matchup against the Humboldt Sluggers.

Four Sandblasters players:  Ryan Smith, Jake Thompson, Josh Iabichello and John Dodson; went a combined 11-of-14 in that final game to account for most of Three Rivers’ 14 hits.

The Sandblasters are back to league play tomorrow afternoon for two games against Corvallis at home.
