PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters trying to control an Eastern Oregon fire near the Owyhee Dam say thunderstorms could breathe new life into the slowly growing blaze. Fire officials said crews totaling about 260 people were on the fire yesterday. The lightning-caused blaze has been going since Monday.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – A pilot says a midair crash in Idaho that injured two Roseburg men and killed a 2-year-old boy last week came without warning. The Roseburg News-Review reports 39-year-old Chris Jordan says he didn’t see or hear the other plane. Jordan was landing a single-engine aircraft June 28 at the Johnson Creek Airport when a twin-engine plane came down on top of it 60 feet in the air.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Court of Appeals has reversed a lower court’s decision to allow a robbery suspect’s statements to be used at trial after the man said he wanted to remain silent. Celso Avila-Nava admits to lying during a 2009 police interrogation, but says he did so after asserting his right to remain silent. The appeals court remanded the case Wednesday to trial court.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say Bonnie, a 19-pound Flemish Giant white rabbit, was stolen in late June from a hutch outside her owner’s southeast Portland home. Authorities said Wednesday they are investigating the theft. The theft of a companion animal is a Class C felony in Oregon.
