REDMOND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says deputies shot and killed a woman last night in Redmond. The sheriff’s office says the deputies were investigating suspicious circumstances about 10 p.m. and during contact with the woman they were fired upon. They returned fire and the woman was killed at the scene.

OREGON CITY, Ore. (AP) – A Lake Oswego man who attempted to smother his 87-year-old mother with a pillow has been sentenced in Oregon City to 16 months in prison as part of a plea agreement. Gilbert Leo Koerger had been charged with attempted murder for the attack last summer at the Lake Oswego home of Annemarie Abraham. The Oregonian reports she fought back until Koerger stopped.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland Fire and Rescue spokesman says a chemical leaking in aerosol form prompted firefighters to evacuate about 50 employees from a produce warehouse yesterday. Occupants of northeast Portland businesses near Pacific Coast Fruit were asked to temporarily stay inside. The company says the spilled substance is heavily diluted before it is used as a wash to sanitize produce. A hazmat crew contained the leak.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An inmate who threatened a fellow prisoner at a Portland jail last year is the suspect in a fatal assault at an Eastern Oregon prison. Corrections officials say Jason Gould died in a hospital Saturday from injuries he sustained the day before at the Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario. They said Gould was assaulted by cellmate Thomas Riffenburg, who threatened a Portland jail inmate with a sharp object made from aluminum venting material.
