WILSONVILLE, Ore. (AP) — A Portland woman is organizing a memorial at the Wilsonville Target store where an estimated 50,000 bees died, apparently from the improper application of pesticide to trees in the parking lot. Rozzell Medina tells The Oregonian the memorial at 2 p.m. Sunday will be an opportunity to make an ecological catastrophe seem less abstract.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Clearing skies are giving searchers the chance to look for a climber who has been missing since last weekend on Mount Hood. After days on standby, an Oregon National Guard helicopter was able fly yesterday afternoon. The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says searchers are prepared to work through the weekend, looking for Kinley Adams, a Salem dentist.

BEND, Ore. (AP) — The Deschutes National Forest is using a helicopter this week to deliver mulch to about 100 acres that officials are trying to restore after a fire last year near Sisters. Soil scientist Terry Craigg told KTVZ the fire burned off a protective layer and exposed soil. A helicopter can deliver about 1 ton of wood chips at a time.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — A Eugene police officer and another man suffered minor injuries in a scuffle yesterday near the University of Oregon. The Register-Guard reports the officer responded to a report of a trespasser and the man who appeared to be drunk refused to move along. Both were treated at a hospital.
