CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon State Police say a nude man who was hit by a trailer as he wandered in the middle of a state highway has died in a Corvallis hospital. The Oregonian says troopers identified the man who died yesterday as 38-year-old Amos McLean of Eddyville. Police got a call Sunday night about a naked man waving branches and shouting while standing on Oregon 20. They soon learned the man had been hit by a vehicle and critically injured.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Education Investment Board will consider appointing retired Springfield Public Schools Superintendent Nancy Golden as the state’s interim chief education officer. The board will consider Golden’s appointment on Monday. She would take over from Rudy Crew, who was appointed president of Medgar Evers College in New York City.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has passed a package of pared-down criminal sentencing changes that is projected to curb state prison population growth over the next five years. The House advanced the bill 40-18 on Thursday. It now goes to the Senate. Among other changes, the bill would reduce sentences established in 2008 for certain drug and property crimes.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon National Guard helicopter has joined the search for a climber missing on Mount Hood after days of waiting on standby. The helicopter lifted off late Thursday afternoon as clouds finally gave way to sun. The climber, 59-year-old Kinley Adams, has been missing since Saturday.
