ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) – The Douglas County sheriff’s office says a man who was arrested by Roseburg police suffered a medical emergency and died after officers used pepper spray and a Taser. Fifty-six-year-old Gregory Price of Sublimity was jailed Friday by deputies called to a report of a disturbance between Price and his wife. When he was released the next day police say Price started jumping on moving vehicles outside the courthouse. The Oregonian says police used the stun gun and pepper spray after Price ignored their commands.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The family of a climber lost since Saturday on Mount Hood is holding out hope he’ll be found alive. The search continues for Kinley Adams, a 59-year-old dentist from Salem. But searchers have been frustrated by two days of white-out conditions. They’re hoping for clearing weather today. Adams’ wife, Lorraine, and two sons told reporters they’re optimistic Adams is alive in a snow cave.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – In a victory for the sleep-deprived, Eugene has listened to a chorus of public opposition and denied a contractor’s request to start concrete pours at a downtown construction site at 4:30 a.m. The Register-Guard says the city’s noise ordinance allows contractor CEI to start work at 7 a.m. The company had asked to start much earlier two or three days per week because of the size of job. The city said it received 65 comments from the public opposing the early morning noise. Two comments were neutral. No one commented in favor.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Gov. John Kitzhaber has declared drought emergencies in three more Oregon counties, Baker, Gilliam and Malheur. He said the declaration provides additional water management tools to assist irrigators, municipalities and other water users. Earlier, Kitzhaber issued a similar declaration covering Klamath County.
