MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – The Medford School Board has upheld the firing of a part-time middle school monitor who refused to comply with district policy not to carry a gun – even though he has a concealed weapons permit. The Mail Tribune reports the six members of the board voted to uphold the dismissal of Donald Later, a retired Jackson County sheriff’s deputy. He was hired as a part-time campus monitor at Hedrick Middle School. He was fired for insubordination when he told the principal he intended to still carry a gun after permission was denied.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – A body found in the water in a Salem ditch was identified yesterday as a 28-year-old transient, Lole Rubio Zendejas. Police say the body found Tuesday had been in the water from a long time. The cause of death remains under investigation.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – A motorcycle rider who was struck by a car yesterday on Interstate 5 near Springfield had stopped under an overpass to take shelter from the rain. Oregon State Police say 58-year-old Terry Brateng of Dallas was walking near his motorcycle when he was hit. He was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend in Springfield with critical injuries.

PORT HURON, Mich. (AP) – An Oregon woman accused of dumping the body of her 89-year-old mother behind a Michigan thrift store has been charged with murder.
