McMINNVILLE, Ore. (AP) – It was indeed a tornado that damaged several buildings in McMinnville. A two-person storm survey team from the National Weather Service sent to the scene confirmed yesterday’s damage was caused by a tornado. Nobody was hurt. The tornado’s estimated top winds in the most damaged area ranged from 86 to 90 miles per hour, which puts it in the EF1 storm category.
GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – Gresham police say a grand jury has indicted a man on a manslaughter count in a fatal, high-speed car crash. They say Sun Bear Raven was also charged with multiple counts of reckless endangerment and driving with a suspended license. Police say he was traveling 100 mph when his car collided May 14 with a car driven by Donald Bard of Gresham. Bard was killed. Raven is in custody.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland man has been arraigned on charges he tried to hire someone to kill his business partner. An affidavit of probable cause says Mohdsidek Habibullah approached a person described as an informant about killing Mohammed Absar, his partner at a Portland convenience store. Police arrested Habibullah Wednesday.
FLORENCE, Ore. (AP) – Several hundred American flags will go up in flames tonight in Florence. It’s not a protest. KCST-FM reports that it’s a show of respect for flags that are now too worn, tattered or frayed to be displayed. American Legionnaires have constructed three fire pits on a vacant lot across from Veterans Park.
