EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Some University of Oregon students are trying to head off fines for unruly parties by hiring private security guards who check IDs and make sure gatherings don’t get out of hand. A guard with Oregon Event Enterprises tells KVAL he’s seen an 80 percent increase in house party patrols over the last two months. Eugene’s social host ordinance went into effect April 1, and since then police have cited 11 people for partying too hard.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – FBI agents have arrested a 45-year-old Albany woman accused of phoning bomb threats to two elementary schools. The U.S. attorney’s office says if Janelle Pinkston is convicted she could face up to 10 years in prison. The Albany police and fire departments say three threatening calls were made to Waverly and Periwinkle elementary schools. Police traced the calls to a phone owned by Pinkston.
VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) – Drivers in the Vancouver area are expecting traffic congestion this weekend when the Transportation Department closes five miles of Interstate 5 in Clark County. The Oregonian reports traffic will be detoured from 11 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday between the I-205 junction and state Highway 500.
ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – Members of the Chinook Indian Nation Council plan to paddle down the Lower Columbia River Water Trail next week in traditional canoes. The Daily Astorian reports the nine council members and friends will travel with four traditional canoes from Washougal to Ridgefield Sunday through June 14.
