SEATTLE (AP) – Raul Ibanez hit a two-run homer and Joe Saunders pitched into the seventh inning to lead the Seattle Mariners over the slumping Chicago White Sox 4-2 last night. Tom Wilhelmsen, who had blown three of his last four save opportunities, gave up a two-out RBI single to Adam Dunn in the ninth but earned his 13th save. The White Sox have lost seven straight games, their longest slide since dropping seven in a row in September 2011.
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Former Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Milton Bradley has been convicted of abusing his estranged wife. The Los Angeles city attorney’s office says Bradley, who will be sentenced July 2, faces up to 7 1/2 years in jail. Authorities say Bradley, who also played for the Seattle Mariners, pushed his wife against a wall and choked her after she asked him to stop smoking marijuana in front of their two children.
RENTON, Wash. (AP) – Losing Anthony McCoy to an Achilles tear two weeks ago has thrown a wrench into the Seattle Seahawks’ plans for their tight end position. The Seahawks were hoping fifth-round pick Luke Willson would be the missing piece to bolster offensive production from the group along with McCoy and starter Zach Miller. McCoy’s injury will likely force him to miss the entire upcoming season.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -The Pac-12 Conference will establish a league-wide policy to limit the number of hits made during football practices beginning this season. Commissioner Larry Scott says the conference will limit hits to numbers less than what the NCAA permits while the schools have self-imposed limits. The Pac-12 CEO Group agreed on the plan during weekend meetings in Park City, Utah.
