ALBANY, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon teenager accused of planning to blow up his high school is expected to be arraigned today on one count of attempted aggravated murder and six counts of manufacturing and possessing a destructive device. Grant Acord was arrested Thursday night after police got a tip that he was making a bomb to blow up West Albany High School about 75 miles south of Portland. Prosecutors say Acord will be charged as an adult.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Alaska Airlines passenger accused of trying to open an emergency exit during a flight from Anchorage to Portland is expected to make his first appearance today in federal court. Witnesses say 23-year-old Alexander Herrera tried to open the emergency exit during the plane’s descent into Portland. Other passengers had to help restrain him using shoelaces and seat-belt extensions.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Marion County authorities say four relatives and another man have been arrested after sheriff’s deputies asked whether they needed a hand with their vehicle early yesterday. As two people gave conflicting stories, deputies noticed a man trying to hide under a blanket. Then two people approached carrying items that investigators later determined were stolen from a nearby home. The Statesman Journal reports that a Salem woman was arrested with her 15-year-old daughter and two adult stepchildren. A 20-year-old man was also arrested.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a man killed his wife and himself in a shooting that also left a second man wounded at a Hillsboro-area home last night. The Washington County sheriff’s office says 61-year-old Kenneth Van Patten shot 56-year-old Melinda Van Patten and turned the gun on himself. Authorities say a 56-year-old man was also was struck by gunfire and had a non-life-threatening injury. His relationship to the couple was not clear.
