Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. (AP) – Court documents say a truck driver from Oregon punched an Indiana police officer more than 10 times before the officer shot his attacker. Battery and resisting arrest charges have been filed against 43-year-old Craig Strand of Portland for the Monday confrontation outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Merrillville. Police say Strand remained hospitalized under heavy sedation after surgery. Authorities say the trouble started after the officer ticketed Strand’s illegally parked semitrailer in the parking lot.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon House has voted to extend a requirement that some mortgage lenders meet with struggling borrowers and a professional mediator before initiating foreclosure proceedings. The mediation requirement was first adopted last year. It applies only to certain foreclosures that are processed outside the courts. The measure approved yesterday would extend it to all foreclosures.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An application for a liquefied natural gas terminal at Coos Bay has been filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. Jordan Cove Energy Project still must go through the process for local, state and federal permits and faces opposition from local landowners and environmentalists. Backers say it would be the largest construction project in Oregon, taking about 900 workers more than three years. The project includes a 230-mile pipeline and a plant that would turn the gas into liquid for shipment on tankers.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Oregon received a formal notice of allegations in December related into the NCAA investigation into its use of recruiting services. The notice, released in response to public records requests, follows reports that Oregon already met with the NCAA Committee on Infractions last month. The NCAA has been looking into payments Oregon made to recruiting services, including a $25,000 payment to Willie Lyles and Houston-based Complete Scouting Services in 2011. Lyles had a connection with an Oregon recruit.
