TUALATIN, Ore. (AP) – Burglars broke into a vacant store at a Tualatin strip mall and knocked through walls or crawled over ceiling rafters to hit a total of six side-by-side businesses. KOIN reports a pharmacy at the Martinazzi Square Shopping Center appears to have been the main target. It lost every prescription medicine – nearly 1,000 bottles worth more than $40,000. A pet store lost all the cash in the register, but no animals were taken or hurt.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a 12-year-old boy stabbed his 18-year-old brother in the back during a fight in Portland last night. The Oregonian reports the victim was treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Officers detained the 12-year-old. The stabbing was reported by the boys’ mother.
BOARDMAN, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon State Police detective says a pipe bomb discovered in the Eastern Oregon city of Boardman would have damaged a mobile home park if it had exploded. Detective Dennis Wagner told the East Oregonian newspaper that the bomb’s potential blast radius was at least 100 yards. Two women found the device Saturday while cleaning up at Boardman’s Community Pride Day. Police have no suspects in the case.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Obie the formerly obese dachshund is recovering at a Tualatin veterinary clinic after surgery last night that removed two-and-a-half pounds of loose skin. Owner Nora Vanatta told KGW the surgery went well and she’s hoping to bring him home today. The loose skin was dragging after the dog lost 40 pounds in eight months on a diet. Obie had weighed 77 pounds. He was down to 37 before the surgery. He now weighs about 35 pounds and Vanatta wants him to lose about 5 more.
