CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon officials say a cleaning worker was killed Friday when he fell into a running meat blender at a Clackamas plant. He was identified as Hugo Avalos-Chanon of Portland, who worked for DCS Sanitation Management. KOIN reports the 41-year-old was cleaning equipment at Interstate Meat Distributors when he fell into a machine that blends meat.

WINCHESTER BAY, Ore. (AP) – Two state police detectives have gone to California to talk to a man about the killing of a woman whose body was found near the Umpqua Lighthouse. Lt. Steve Mitchell says the man they are talking to was being held on local charges, but he declined to say if it’s an Oregon man who was arrested Monday night on carjacking charges in Marin County.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland is ready to pay more than $2 million to settle a federal lawsuit filed on behalf of a man who was mistakenly shot by a police officer. The Oregonian says city attorneys and the lawyer for William Monroe reached the agreement Monday during mediation. If City Council approves, the $2.3 million settlement would be the largest in Portland history.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber plans to sign a bill into law today that will give tens of thousands of immigrants living in Oregon without legal permission the ability to get a driver’s license. The House passed the measure in a 38-20 vote following more than an hour of debate yesterday. Under the bill immigrants could apply for a four-year license starting Jan. 1.
