Five Siuslaw athletes saw action at the 49th annual Centennial Invitational track and field meet in Portland over the weekend… two of those set new school records in their events, erasing previous marks that they had set themselves.

Katy Potter finished third in the elite 3,000 meters with a time of 10:11.26 seconds.

Hayden Schaffner bettered his previous mark set last year in the state 4A championships with a sixth place finish in the 800, slipping under a minute-55 with a time of 1:54.89.

Mack Marbas ran a personal best for an 8th place finish in the 15-hundred at 4:03.39.  Mitchell Butler was sixth in the three-thousand in 8:47.67 and Matthew Campbell was ninth in 8:49.57.

That meet came the day after the Central Coast Invitational… Roseburg easily outdistanced the other ten teams in the boys division to win the championship.  Dallas edged Philomath and Elmira for the girls’ win.

Alex Dodson was a double event winner, taking the girls’ long jump with a leap of 15’ 10” and the triple jump at 32’ 4”.

The boys’ 4×400 relay team of Mack Marbas, Matthew Campbell, Hayden Schaffner and Brian Schofield blazed to a win in 3:29.05.

There were some tense moments on the field when pole vaulter Billy Jones fell backward while trying to clear 13-feet, 6-inches and landed on the runway.  He was immobilized and transported by ambulance to Peace Harbor Medical Center where he was treated for bruises and released.  By the way… he finished 2nd in that event, clearing 13-feet even on his previous attempt.
