CLACKAMAS, Ore. (AP) – Oregon officials confirm that a cleaning worker was killed when he fell into a running meat grinder at a Clackamas plant. He was identified as Hugo Avalos Chanon of Portland, who worked for DCS Sanitation Management. KOIN reports he was cleaning equipment at Interstate Meat Distributors on Friday when he fell into a machine that blends meat. A co-worker hit an emergency stop button, but it was too late. OSHA is investigating.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The state Senate has approved a bill establishing guidelines for service animals. The measure defines a service animal as one that is trained to perform tasks for someone with a disability. The issue arose because people were taking all kinds of pets into restaurants and stores, and passing them off as service animals.

BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) – Water from an irrigation canal has overflowed in southeast Baker City, causing minor damage. Public works director Michelle Owen tells the Baker City Herald that yesterday’s leak is not like the “full-blown mess” that occurred 10 years ago. Back then, an estimated 10 million gallons of water poured through a breach, causing hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

CENTRAL POINT, Ore. (AP) – Jackson County authorities arrested two men accused of leading police on a chase in a stolen pickup. Sheriff’s officials say a deputy tried to stop the driver early yesterday after seeing him ignore a stop sign. Spike strips were used at several intersections before the front tire finally deflated. Deputies say the pickup was stolen from a Medford dealership.
