PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland man is struggling to survive after saving 7 people from a duplex fire. KATU-TV reports John Zeller is in intensive care in a Portland hospital. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The state Legislature is considering honoring brewer’s yeast as the state microbe. The House has already approved the resolution and now it’s before the Senate. Resolution sponsor Rep. Mark Johnson says designating brewer’s yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) as the state microbe is a salute to the economic impact it has had on the state’s economy.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A new analysis by the Oregon Employment Department has found software jobs are growing quickly, even though the state’s economy is still sluggish. The Oregonian reports software jobs are growing at a double-digit percentage rate. Two-thirds of Oregon’s software jobs are in the Portland area, followed by the Eugene-Springfield area.
