ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) – The Coast Guard says it saved 35 tons of shrimp when it helped two fishing boats that became disabled off Tillamook Bay and Depoe Bay. Both crews reported Wednesday their vessels had become disabled with large catches. Coast Guard boats towed one boat with 10 tons of shrimp to Garibaldi and the other boat with 25 tons of shrimp to Newport. The Coast Guard says it was fortunate the weather was calm.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Multnomah County’s commissioners have approved a gun control ordinance aimed at protecting children. The Oregonian reports it largely adopts Portland rules to tweak existing gun laws. The ordinance bans possession of a loaded firearm in public, firing a gun in the county and allowing a child to have a gun without the owner’s permission.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A Springfield man who pleaded guilty to child rape and sex abuse charges has been sentenced in Eugene to 50 years in prison. The Register-Guard reports the sentence for 33-year-old Joshua Bunn is mandatory under Oregon law. Judge Jay McAlpin said the sentence was justified because of Bunn’s history of sex crimes. He spent nine years in prison on rape and sex abuse charges involving seven teenage girls. He was released in 2009.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The mother of a 4-year-old girl is suing a Lincoln City day care, accusing it of failing to protect her daughter from being molested by another 4-year-old. The suit filed yesterday seeks more than $8 million. The Oregonian reports the lawsuit says the girl told her mother last October that another girl had drawn on her private parts with a pen. Lawyers have asked Lincoln County child welfare authorities to investigate the well-being of the accused 4-year-old.
