PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A federal judge in Oregon has rejected a defense request for a new trial for a Somali American convicted in a terrorism case, finding no serious miscarriage of justice occurred during his trial. U.S. District Judge Garr King ruled yesterday on motions filed by lawyers for 21-year-old Mohamed Mohamud. The judge also rejected a defense motion to acquit him.

DONALD, Ore. (AP) – A Marion County sheriff’s spokesman says an autopsy shows that a 4-year-old boy fatally shot in his home in the small Oregon town of Donald died from a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. Spokesman Don Thomson said yesterday that the investigation continues into Cody Hall’s death. The sheriff’s office has said that no suspects are being sought.

SEASIDE, Ore. (AP) – A 50-year-old Seaside man has been sentenced to two consecutive life prison terms for killing his ex-wife and her male friend in May 2012. The Oregonian reports that the Circuit Court sentence imposed yesterday on Marcus Glenn Foster includes the possibility of parole. Foster pleaded guilty last month to two counts of first-degree aggravated murder.

SCAPPOOSE, Ore. (AP) – State Sen. Betsy Johnson has been injured in a traffic accident on her way to the legislative session under way in Salem. The Daily Astorian reported she was hurt yesterday morning in a low-speed collision and was being treated for hip and leg injuries. The accident happened after she left her home in Scappoose. She says the air bags did not deploy.
