SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon lawmakers don’t appear to be interested in asking voters to create a sales tax or requiring labels on genetically modified foods. Those bills and dozens of others failed to clear a key deadline in the Legislature last week. Plenty of other ideas are still alive, including gun-control bills, a bill allowing marijuana dispensaries and one banning suction-dredge mining.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Washington County Sheriff’s office says bomb experts safely detonated a pipe bomb found in a field in a rural part of the county Saturday. Deputies called to the scene Saturday afternoon were told by a 56-year-old man that he had found a bomb in the field. The Portland Bomb Squad was called. Authorities aren’t sure who left the bomb in the field.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland police are searching for a man who stabbed a TriMet bus driver as he was exiting a portable restroom in the Lents neighborhood Saturday. Police say the bus operator, 35-year-old Brian Nixon, was using the restroom when someone banged on the door. The man demanded to use the bathroom, then stabbed Nixon in the leg and ran.

DONALD, Ore. (AP) – The Marion County sheriff’s office is investigating the death of a 4-year-old boy in the town of Donald. Detectives were called Saturday evening to a home in Donald, about 25 miles northeast of Salem. Several media outlets reported the boy was shot and killed. Authorities haven’t released the boy’s name or details about how he died. An autopsy is set for today.
