PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The Portland suburb of Lake Oswego has chosen to join a federal terrorism task force. The city council approved the action without debate, a far less contentious outcome than the prolonged back-and-forth between the city of Portland and the Joint Terrorism Task Force. Portland left the task force in 2005 and rejoined on a case-by-case basis in 2011. The Oregonian says Lake Oswego intends to assign a detective part-time to work with federal agents one or two days a month.

PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) – Officials in Pendleton in northeast Oregon say they’re making a pitch to get drone manufacturers interested in their area. They say the sparse population and lack of air traffic make the region a fine place to test unmanned aircraft. Economic development consultant Steve Chrisman tells the East Oregonian that drones are likely to be the area’s best bet for dramatic development at its industrial park. He says the region plans a conference of manufacturers this fall in the area.

GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) – An Oklahoma teen inspired to live off the land by the movie “Into the Wild” is missing in remote, rugged country in southeastern Oregon. The Harney County sheriff’s office says a search began Tuesday for 19-year-old Dustin Self on the north end of Steens Mountain after a rancher found his truck slid off a backcountry road. Searchers hope for good weather today so they can put up a plane to look for him. Victor and Tammy Self say he left the Oklahoma City area a month ago for Oregon, where he was interested in churches practicing a South American religion using a hallucinogenic tea as a sacrament.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A Portland police spokesman says officers have arrested a Vancouver, Wash., man and seized three kilos – or more than 6½ pounds – of cocaine. Sgt. Pete Simpson says officers also seized more than $11,000 in cash late Tuesday night. Simpson says drug enforcement officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle and got the driver’s consent to search it. Officers found one kilo of powder cocaine and arrested the passenger, 37-year-old Worter Torriente-Vela of Vancouver. Simpson says officers got the man’s consent to search his home, where they found two more kilos of cocaine and the cash.
