PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon physician did not have any time to rest after completing the Boston Marathon. Paul Pearson of Florence had just finished the race and was walking back to a hotel with his wife Rachel when they heard the first of two explosions that killed at least three people and injured scores more. Rachel Pearson told KCST radio her husband put on his sweats and began to treat the wounded. She says everyone jumped in to help on what she described as “a day like no other.”

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Following the deadly bombings at the Boston Marathon, organizers of the Eugene Marathon say their event will go on as planned on April 28. Eugene Marathon officials issued a statement expressing compassion for those impacted by the bombings yesterday, as did many in the close-knit Oregon track community. Organizers say they will work with authorities to make sure the event is safe for participants and spectators. Eugene is widely known as “Track Town.”

MEDFORD, Ore. (AP) – A 53-year-old Oregon man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for killing his wife and four young children in July 2011. In a tearful and rambling statement yesterday, Jordan Adam Criado of Medford maintained that he killed his wife after she killed the children. But in imposing the sentence, Judge Lorenzo Mejia (muh-HEE’-uh) said by all accounts, Criado became angry and killed his entire family when his wife told him she was leaving him for another man.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – An Oregon Senate committee has advanced a bill granting four-year driver’s licenses to people who can’t prove they’re legally in the United States. The Senate Business and Transportation Committee approved the bill yesterday on a 4-2 vote. The bill would allow immigrants who have lived in Oregon for at least a year and meet other requirements to apply for driver’s cards without proving legal presence. The card would be valid for only four years and would indicate “driving privilege only.”
