Here is the latest Washington, Oregon and Alaska sports news from The Associated Press

DENVER (AP) – Andre Iguodala (ihg-woh-DAH’-lah) scored 28 points and the Denver Nuggets set an NBA franchise record with their 55th win yesterday, beating the short-handed Portland Trail Blazers 118-109. Rookie Evan Fournier scored 24 points in his second career start, sinking a pair of crucial 3-pointers in the closing minutes after the Trail Blazers had cut a 20-point deficit to 104-101 with 3:33 left. Rookie Damian Lillard led Portland with 30 points but also had eight of the Trail Blazers’ 23 turnovers.

DENVER (AP) – Kenneth Faried left Denver’s game against Portland after spraining his left ankle in the opening minutes yesterday. X-rays were negative and the Nuggets said he’s day to day. Faried’s ankle buckled when he went in for a layup less than three minutes into the game, and he crumpled to the floor, covering his face. He needed his teammates’ help as he gingerly walked off. Portland was without three starters: LaMarcus Aldridge (right ankle), Wesley Matthews (right ankle) and Nicolas Batum (bah-TOOM’) (right shoulder).

SEATTLE (AP) – Dustin Ackley snapped a sixth-inning tie with his first RBI of the season, rookie Brandon Maurer rebounded from a horrible start to throw six strong innings for his first career victory and the Seattle Mariners beat the Texas Rangers 4-3 yesterday. Raul Ibanez added a solo homer as Seattle salvaged a split of the four-game series thanks largely to Maurer finally showing the promise he displayed in spring training that earned him a spot in the rotation. Tom Wilhelmsen pitched the ninth for his fifth save.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Will Johnson scored on a free kick in the 78th minute and the Portland Timbers won their second straight match with a physical 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes last night. The goal moves Portland to 2-1-3 for the season under new coach Caleb Porter. Portland also defeated the Houston Dynamo last weekend at Jeld-Wen Field. San Jose forward Alan Gordon was ejected in the second half after receiving his second yellow card. The loss drops San Jose to 2-3-2.
