PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Police say a male victim has been shot in a drive-by shooting in North Portland. The Oregonian reports the shooting took place at 5:30 p.m. Sunday at North Killingsworth Street and Albina Avenue. Teens or young adults were gathered at the corner. A vehicle drove by and someone inside fired shots. The shooting victim was taken by private vehicle to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. The victim’s name was not immediately available. Police say his injury is not life-threatening.
GRESHAM, Ore. (AP) – A 30-year-old Gresham woman who reported her 6-year-old daughter missing is now facing criminal charges after authorities found the girl hours later safe with her mother. Gresham police say Sara Lea Edmond is in custody on charges including criminal mistreatment, child neglect, custodial interference and filing a false report. Her arraignment is set for today. Edmond reported the girl missing at about 3:15 p.m. Saturday, saying she hadn’t arrived at a friend’s house as planned.
SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Power has been restored to about 1,200 Pacific Power customers who lost electricity after a man charged with drunken driving crashed into a light pole Saturday night. A Pacific Power spokesman says power was restored to all customers by yesterday morning. The crash happened shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday. Deputy Jacob Thompson says the driver hit a sign before crashing into a power pole. The Statesman Journal reports the driver was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants and criminal mischief.
CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – The district attorney of Benton County is pitching a new idea aimed at heading off violence like the Sandy Hook school shooting. The Corvallis Gazette-Times says that John Haroldson wants to create a specialized prosecutor position to focus on juvenile and mental health cases. Haroldson pitched the idea this month at a Benton County Budget Committee meeting. His two-year funding request included an additional $272,000 for a specialized prosecutor and support staff.
