Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

BEND, Ore. (AP) – The Deschutes County sheriff’s office says a rural homeowner fired a shot last night at an intruder who broke a window. The shot missed and the man fled into a nearby wooded area where he was tracked down by a police dog and arrested. While the man was being evaluated for bite wounds at a Bend hospital, he fought with an officer. He was finally booked into jail. The sheriff’s office says drug use is suspected.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – Oregon’s health insurance exchange plans to open a call center in Salem with 50 permanent jobs and 100 seasonal jobs. Starting in May or June, the workers will answer questions from people and companies about the Affordable Care Act. The health exchange called Cover Oregon was approved by the Legislature in 2011 to help implement federal health care legislation. The Statesman Journal reports Cover Oregon is based in the Portland suburb of Durham where a staff of 70 is expected to grow to 100.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A man arrested on a drunken driving charge has sued the Portland police for $545,000, alleging officers beat and used stun guns on him without provocation. The June 2011 incident was captured on parking lot surveillance video. It shows officers trying to handcuff Jason Matthew Cox and taking him down, with one officer punching him several times.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Senate has approved a Democratic plan to cut pension benefits for retired government workers, voting along party lines over vehement objections from Republicans who said the plan was timid and anemic. Democrats say the measure would allow more spending on education by reducing taxpayer contributions to the Public Employees Retirement System.
