SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The Oregon Legislature has taken two major steps to help integrate some of the thousands of immigrants living in the state illegally. Gov. ENTERPRISE, Ore. (AP) – Cattle seized in an Eastern Oregon neglect case have been ordered forfeited to Wallowa County. The La Grande Observer reports that 60-year-old Ed Scott of Lostine was charged with 43 counts of animal neglect after the death of a calf in January. He faces trial in July. Caring and feeding of the remaining cows until the trial is expected to cost $10,000.

CANBY, Ore. (AP) – Firefighters have freed a 15-year-old llama that sank into mud up to his belly after stepping into a marshy area near Canby, south of Portland. Fire Chief Troy Buzalsky says the llama named Sgt. Pepper stayed calm after his right front leg and right hind leg became mired. Buzalsky tells The Oregonian that a veterinarian sedated the animal before six firefighters rolled him out of the mud last evening. The llama was unhurt.
