In 2006, for example, 3,190 thefts were reported. By 2012, thefts had risen to 3,885. Robberies went from 42 in 2006 to 70 in 2012. There were 1,039 assaults in 2006; 1,580 in 2012.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – A local couple and their landlord are being sued for almost $500,000 for an alleged 2011 attack by the couple’s old dog on a passing pedestrian. But one of the dog’s owners says it never attacked the woman. The owner says the woman lost her footing when the friendly, then-19-year-old dog approached her. Harley the dog is now 21, blind and deaf. The Eugene Register-Guard reports the matter will be decided in Lane County Circuit Court, where the lawsuit was filed last week by an attorney for Holly Higgins. She claims that a dog owned by Larry and Jenny Burnett ran up and jumped on her from behind.

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – A 66-year-old retired Corvallis High School music teacher has been stripped of his teaching license. The state Teacher Standards and Practices Commission on Feb. 11 permanently revoked the teaching license of Marshall H. Price because of inappropriate conduct involving students. The Corvallis Gazette-Times reports Price between 2007 and 2009 made inappropriate comments to a female student. He allegedly made a similar comment to her in 2010 after she graduated.
