MOLALLA, Ore. (AP) – The Clackamas County sheriff’s office says a stabbing suspect fled the scene early today by speeding off in a patrol car. One of the deputies who arrived at the crime scene a few minutes later noticed a patrol car driving away at a high rate of speed with no lights on. A pursuit ended when the suspect lost control and crashed near Molalla. Police say the driver was not injured. They arrested Tara Axmaker of Milwaukie on car theft and felony eluding charges. The man who was stabbed was flown to a hospital, condition unknown.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – State officials have fired the Oregon prison industries chief who raised the issue of possibly questionable hiring and spending practices at the state Corrections Department. Rob Killgore tells The Oregonian that his firing yesterday as administrator of Oregon Corrections Enterprises is retaliation for raising concerns that touched off a state Justice Department investigation. Through an aide, state Corrections Department Director Colette Peters denied any retaliation.

TIGARD, Ore. (AP) – Police in the Portland suburb of Tigard (TY-gard) say a commuter train hit and killed a man who is believed to have intentionally lain on the tracks yesterday morning. Police say the man was 20 but his name was not immediately made public. Police say the WES commuter train had just left the Tigard Transit Center and traveled about two blocks.

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Police in Eugene say a transient told them he was beaten by three men who stole his ferret and a large backpack containing a mandolin. The Register-Guard says the 31-year-old victim told officers he was robbed late Tuesday night. He was hospitalized with injuries suffered in the attack. Police say the ferret was wearing a red service vest with the name “Bojangles” written on it.
