Vikings drop diamond opener; Beavers bounced from tourney; Ducks get the Dawgs

Siuslaw’s Jake Thompson struck out eight and gave up only two hits in 4 2/3 innings yesterday, but 7 walks contributed to a 3-1 opening game loss at the hands of Pleasant Hill.  Defensively, the Vikings played well, committing only one error.  But, it was at the plate where they struggled, managing only two hits and leaving eight base-runners stranded.  Siuslaw will face Marshfield at home tomorrow afternoon.

Pac 12 Men’s Basketball

Oregon State played from behind most of the way and the Colorado Buffaloes eliminated the Beavers from the Pac-12 Men’s Basketball tournament 74-68 yesterday in Las Vegas.  Colorado will face Arizona this afternoon.  Also coming up this afternoon at the Pac-12 will be Oregon and Washington.  The Huskies edged Washington State 64-62 in their opener yesterday.  The Ducks and the Dawgs face off this evening at 8:30… airtime on Coast Radio Sports is at eight.

College Baseball

On the college diamond yesterday, number three Oregon State rebounded quickly from their only loss of the season with a 6-5 win over San Francisco.  Dylan Davis had another good day at the plate, going two-for-four with three RBI.  Oregon State opens the conference season tomorrow at Arizona.

In Eugene, Brett Thomas was three-for-five with one RBI and a run scored to lead number 16 Oregon to a 10-4 non-conference win over Texas State.  The Ducks put up 12 hits.  They open up Pac-12 play tomorrow in Los Angeles against USC.
