OSAA State Wrestling; College Basketball and Baseball

Siuslaw’s Ryan Connor fell to Crook County’s Jason Williams in the first round of the finals at 285 pounds Saturday evening.  Williams won the gold, and Connor brought home the silver from the OSAA 4A State Wrestling Finals.  The semi-final match was much closer as Connor claimed an 8-7 decision over previously undefeated Gabriel Gonzalez of Ontario.  Gonzalez had come into the meet as the favorite; Connor was the number four seed

The other Viking in the tournament was Hayden Miles at 152 pounds.  He lost to the eventual state champion in the quarterfinal round; won his first match in the consolation bracket and then was eliminated 3-2 in the consolation quarterfinal to end up 2-and-2 at the tournament.

Pac-12 Basketball

Number 23 Oregon hung on to a share of the Pac-12 lead after downing Stanford 77-66 Saturday evening in Eugene.  Carlos Emory led the Ducks with 19 points and Jonathon Lloyd had a season high of 15 points.

In Corvallis, Justin Cobbs had 18 points and the surging Cal Bears won their fifth straight by outlasting a late rally from Oregon State for a 60 – 59 victory.

On the Diamond

Oregon State remains undefeated so far on the season.  They swept San Diego State in four games over the weekend.  The Beavers are 8-0 overall.  Oregon lost the weekend opener Friday night to Loyola Marymount, then claimed the next two. The Ducks are 6-1 overall.
