Here is the latest Oregon news from The Associated Press

BOARDMAN, Ore. (AP) – Morrow County District Attorney Justin Nelson says he will not charge a Boardman kindergarten teacher accused of forcing students to wear diapers as punishment. Nelson said police interviews with 14 students failed to provide enough evidence to back up the claims of three students who said the teacher put diapers on students for “acting like a baby.” The East Oregonian reports the kids gave conflicting statements and some said no students ever wore diapers. The school district says it will conduct its own investigation.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A 1988 cold case homicide in Portland was resolved yesterday when a man made a plea bargain with prosecutors and admitted there was enough evidence to convict him of manslaughter. The 43-year-old Michael Garrett was given an 11-year prison sentence for the death of 30-year-old Loretha Williams. She was stabbed and strangled during a robbery 25 years ago. The Oregonian reports Garrett was convicted of attempted murder in 1990 for beating another woman during a robbery.

SILVERTON, Ore. (AP) – Authorities say a man armed with a rifle and two handguns was fatally shot in a gun battle with officers yesterday after he wounded a man at an Oregon RV park east of Salem. Marion County deputies say the gunman was airlifted from the Silver Spur RV park in Silverton to a Portland hospital where he died of his wounds. The wounded man is hospitalized in stable condition. Neither man was identified.

BEND, Ore. (AP) – Searchers in Central Oregon have found a father and 13-year-old son reported overdue after they headed out on snowmobiles toward Mount Bachelor. KTVZ reports they were found yesterday afternoon about 30 miles southwest of Bend after they ran out of gas and spent the night in a snow cave. They were reported in good condition.
