SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Elias Harris scored 17 points and No. 3 Gonzaga crushed Santa Clara 85-42 last night, the ninth win in a row for the Zags. Kelly Olynyk added 15 points for Gonzaga, riding its best-ever ranking in the poll. Brandon Clark had 14 points for Santa Clara. Leading scorer Kevin Foster was saddled with three fouls in the first half and finished with just four points, 14 below his average. Gonzaga needs one more win to claim at least a share of the WCC regular season title it lost last season.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) – Solomon Hill had 19 points, Mark Lyons added 14 and No. 12 Arizona pulled away after an uninspired start to beat Washington 70-52 last night. Whether it was the late tipoff or the rare snowstorm outside, Arizona was sluggish at the start, needing nearly 12 minutes just to crack double figures. Once they got rolling, the Wildcats didn’t stop, revving up the rowdy crowd in Tucson. C.J. Wilcox had 15 points and Abdul Gaddy had 12 for Washington, which lost its fifth consecutive road game.

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) – Carrick Felix had 23 points and 11 rebounds, Jahii (jah-HEE’) Carson scored 21 and Arizona State earned its 20th win of the season, beating Washington State 69-57 last night. Jordan Bachynski added 12 points for ASU. Brock Motum scored 17, Royce Woolridge 16 and DaVonte Lacy 15 for the last-place Cougars in their seventh loss in a row. The Sun Devils, one of the country’s worst free-throw shooting teams this season, sealed the win with eight in a row during the final 1:35.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Portland Trail Blazers forward J.J. Hickson apologized for his Valentine’s Day tweets about when to cut off contact with a woman. The Blazers’ big man took to the social media site Twitter last week to post a series of tweets with the hashtag “girlbye” that he meant to be funny one-liners. But some of the stream drew criticism for being demeaning toward women. He also included a shout-out to strippers. Hickson apologized to those he offended, insisting the whole thing was a joke.

FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – The Boston Red Sox have acquired Mike Carp from the Seattle Mariners for a player to be named later or cash. Seattle designated the 26-year-old Carp for assignment earlier this month, and the Red Sox were able to work out a deal for him. Carp can play both first base and left field. Boston and Seattle announced the move yesterday. Carp was drafted by the New York Mets in 2004 and traded to Seattle in December 2008 in a deal that sent reliever J.J. Putz to New York.
