EUGENE, Ore. (AP) – Andre Roberson scored the game-winner with 29 seconds left, capping Colorado’s game-closing 8-0 run and the Buffaloes handed No. 19 Oregon its third straight loss, 48-47. Roberson finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds for the Buffaloes, who trailed 47-40 with just under 4 minutes to play. E.J. Singler scored 14 points for the Ducks, who had their 20-game home winning streak snapped. Singler had a chance to win it for Oregon but his long jumper was tipped and fell to Roberson.
SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) – Kevin Pangos scored 14 points and No. 6 Gonzaga pounded Pepperdine 82-56 for its 24th win in a row over the Waves. Kelly Olynyk added 13 points for Gonzaga, which has won five in a row since losing at Butler. Stacy Davis scored 16 points to lead Pepperdine, which has lost four straight games. Nikolas Skouen added 12 points. Gonzaga scored the first 10 points of the game and Pepperdine was scoreless for the first 5 minutes while committing nine turnovers in 8 minutes.
SEATTLE (AP) – The Seattle Mariners have finalized a $1.5 million, one-year deal with catcher Kelly Shoppach, providing a needed backup to expected starter Jesus Montero. Seattle announced the deal yesterday. To make room on the 40-man roster, Seattle designated for assignment reliever Shawn Kelley, who just last week agreed to a 1-year, $935,000 deal with the team to avoid arbitration. Seattle has 10 days to trade or release Kelley, or to send him outright to the minors if he clears waivers.
SEATTLE (AP) – Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners are working on a $175 million, seven-year contract that would make him the highest-paid pitcher in baseball, according to a person with knowledge of the deal’s details. The person spoke to The Associated Press yesterday on condition of anonymity because the agreement has not been completed. USA Today first reported the deal. Seattle would add $134.5 million of guaranteed money over five years to the contract of the 2010 AL Cy Young Award winner, whose current agreement calls for him to receive $40.5 million over the next two seasons.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Cory Schneider made 22 saves and Mason Raymond had a power-play goal and an assist in the second period to lead Vancouver past the sputtering Minnesota Wild 4-1 last night, the fourth straight win for the Canucks. Niklas Backstrom gave up two scores in each of the first two periods for the Wild, and Josh Harding was in the net for the final frame. Daniel Sedin (seh-DEEN’), Chris Higgins and Jannik Hansen also had goals for the Canucks.
