PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – About 200 people gathered at the Portland Church of God last night for a memorial service for the man who was shot to death in Vancouver early Tuesday as a suspected prowler. Nineteen-year-old Iosif Dumitrash was the youngest of 11 children. Family members told The Oregonian he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Vancouver resident Sean Doucette thought he was a car prowler and was holding him at gunpoint for police when shots were fired. Prosecutors say he shot Dumitrash as he was trying to walk away. Doucette’s lawyer says he was attacked and fired in self-defense.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Hours after he was convicted in federal court in Portland of possessing child pornography, former Beaverton teacher Logan Storm left his electronic monitoring bracelet in a Troutdale park and disappeared. An assistant U.S. attorney had argued Tuesday that Storm was a flight risk, but Judge Ancer Haggerty sided with defense lawyers and released him. Storm faces more than seven years in prison at sentencing scheduled for April 8.

SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) – A rooftop burglar has hit three businesses this month in Springfield. Targets have been a mini-mart, sports bar and bowling alley. An employee of Timber Bowl arrived at work Monday and found a hole in the ceiling. The cash register was damaged and lottery tickets stolen. Police tell The Register-Guard rooftop burglaries are rare because of the amount of work involved.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (AP) – A former Hillsboro police officer accused of exchanging gunfire with 10 Washington County officers at his home has been indicted on 26 counts including multiple charges of attempted aggravated murder. The Oregonian reports that 46-year-old Timothy Cannon was arraigned yesterday. In addition to attempted murder, assault and harassment, he’s charged with aggravated animal abuse, accused of killing a cat. He resigned from the Hillsboro Police Department on Monday.
