PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – Jurors are deliberating the fate of a young Oregon man accused of attempting to detonate a bomb at Portland’s 2010 Christmas tree-lighting. After 10 days of testimony and a day of closing arguments from each side’s attorneys, jurors will be asked to make a decision based on their impressions of Mohamud Mohamud’s state of mind at the time of the crime. Mohamud’s defense attorneys and government prosecutors agree that the then-17-year-old Mohamud intended to kill tens of thousands of people.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – A union official says Daimler Trucks North America plans to lay off 250 workers at its Portland factory in February. Joe Kear of the International Association of Machinists in Portland tells The Oregonian managers have notified the 250 workers that their last day will be Feb. 15. Daimler makes Freightliner and Western Star trucks.

DALLAS, Ore. (AP) – A former city manager in the Oregon community of Dallas has pleaded guilty to three counts of first-degree theft, one count of official misconduct and one count of falsifying business records. Polk County prosecutors say Jerry Wyatt’s plea agreement calls for a two-year prison sentence and full restitution. They say Wyatt will repay nearly $12,000, the amount sought by the city of Dallas.

SALEM, Ore. (AP) – The state has asked a judge to order political activist Kevin Mannix to submit records connected to his involvement with the Oregon War Veterans Association, a charity accused of making unreported political contributions. Assistant Attorney General Heather Weigler says the state requested the material in July and Mannix has not delivered. An attorney for the former Republican gubernatorial candidate tells The Register-Guard he was negotiating with the state over the release of records and believed an agreement was near before the attorney general’s office filed its motion.
