COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) – A magnitude 5.3 earthquake has been recorded about 170 miles off the southern Oregon coast. The National Weather Service’s West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center said there was no danger of a tsunami from the temblor. There were no immediate reports of damage. The U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colo., says the 7:14 p.m. PST quake occurred at a depth of 6.4 miles. At least four people reported feeling the quake.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) – The defense has rested in the trial of an Oregon man accused of terrorism. Attorneys will present their closing arguments today. Twenty-one-year-old Mohamed Mohamud is accused of attempting to detonate a weapon of mass destruction at a Portland Christmas tree-lighting in November 2010. His attorneys contend that he was entrapped. The bomb he allegedly attempted to use was a fake, supplied by FBI agents posing as al-Qaida recruiters. Testimony lasted just over 10 days.

SEATTLE (AP) – An injured Washington state woman has filed suit in a Dec. 30 bus crash that killed nine people and injured 38 others on a highway in northeastern Oregon. The Oregonian reports that 74-year-old Eun Sook Uhm of Lynnwood, Wash., sued the bus company that organized her trip, Mi Joo Tour & Travel of Vancouver, British Columbia. The federal court suit filed Tuesday seeks unspecified damages for Uhm and her husband, who was not on the bus when it crashed in icy conditions on Interstate 84. She remains hospitalized at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with injuries described in the lawsuit as “severe and permanent.”

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) – Police in Corvallis say they’re working with Oregon State Police to investigate two recent attacks on women. The nature of the attacks and the descriptions of the assailant were similar in both cases. Late on the night of Jan. 15, a man attacked a female victim from behind and knocked her to the ground. On the evening of Jan. 26, a man attacked a woman as she was walking from her home to a vehicle in her driveway. She was tackled to the ground and held there as the man hit her.
